West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) of causing severe flooding in South Bengal due to the unplanned release of water.

Mamata Banerjee alleged that the Centre didn’t take any step for dredging and desilting the DVC reservoirs despite the issue being raised on various platforms

Repeating her charge that the floods in West Bengal are man-made, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written to PM Narendra Modi and blamed the release of water by the Damodar Valley Corporation from reservoirs in Jharkhand for the situation.

The development comes at a time when Bengal CM Banerjee wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating that the state would sever all ties with Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) for "unilaterally releasing water" which led to floods in south Bengal districts.

Blaming Jharkhand for unbridled release of water through its DVC damns, CM Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said she was shutting Bengal's borders with the state for three days. The police reportedly stopped the entry of cargo vehicles travelling from Jharkhand to West Bengal at Duburdih Check Post near Maithon from around 7 pm on Thursday evening,

In the letter to PM Modi, Mamata Banerjee urged the Centre to immediately release central funds to mitigate the widespread devastation caused by the floods.

Kolkata: Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Friday criticised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and warned that if she severed ties with the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), several districts in southern Bengal would plunge into darkness.

Mamata Banerjee wrote to Prime Minister Modi regarding severe floods in West Bengal caused by water releases from Maithon and Panchet dams. She declared the state would cut ties with the Damodar Valley Corporation if necessary — citing the immense damage to around five million people.
