An assault suspect was shot by a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry Wednesday after allegedly advancing toward an officer while holding a screwdriver and ignoring commands to drop the weapon.

The San Diego Police Department is investigating a shooting involving a U.S. Customs and Border officer at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry on Wednesday.

CBP officers seized over $1 million worth of cocaine hidden in a tractor-trailer at Otay Mesa Commercial Facility.

No trucks were being allowed to cross at the port. It was unclear when the closure began or what prompted the decision.
