Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday assured that his government would accord top priority to protect, preserve the sanctity of temples and respect the sentiments of the devotees and would take stringent steps towards this.

The announcement from TDP leader N. Chandrababu Naidu came after he claimed that during the previous government, led by his rival YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, 'laddus' containing 'animal fat' were given as 'prasadam' at the Sri Venkateswara temple in Tirupati.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday said the government will consult pontiffs, sages, priests and other top Hinduism experts on the future course of action to be taken following allegations of animal fat adulteration in Tirupati laddoos.

Hyderabad: A 'Samprokshnam' ritual to cleanse and purify the Tirumala temple is on the cards as concerns were raised from Hindus across the globe after it was found that the cow ghee used to make the sacred Tirupati Laddu prasadam was 'adulterated' with animal fat.

The CM also indicated he would take action on the matter, asking should he spare people when 'unpardonable mistakes' are committed

The Tirupati Laddu, also called the ‘Srivari Laddu’, has been the main offering at the temple for more than 300 years. The newly-elected TDP government alleged that the the previous YSRCP government of "adulterating" the laddu.

Reacting to the Tirupati laddu issue, former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy stated that the TDP is "politicising religious matters."
