The Iran-backed Kataib Hezbollah said that Abu Haidar al-Khafaji was killed in a “Zionist assault” at dawn in Damascus. Khafaji had been working as a security advisor in the area, the group said in a statement on Telegram.

Iran's U.N. envoy warned the country had the "right to take all necessary measures to respond to this egregious violation."

Al Jazeera reported that Israeli forces continued to pummel the Palestinian enclave on Monday, bombing “al-Amoudi street in the Sabra neighborhood, south of Gaza City.” The outlet noted that “at least 10 people have been killed today in attacks across the Gaza Strip.”

Israel killed at least two Hezbollah commanders and other members of the group in an airstrike on Beirut's southern suburbs on Sept. 20.

Hezbollah fired medium-range rockets toward areas south of Haifa on Sunday morning local time, significantly expanding the range of its attacks against Israel. Why it matters: Most of the rockets were intercepted by Israel or hit open areas but the attack signaled another escalation in the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that Israel has dealt serious blows to Lebanese group Hezbollah, as rapidly escalating cross-border exchanges raised fears of an all-out war.
